7 reasons to study the masters degree “Innovation and Tourism Marketing” at UCAM

Insider Report

Reason #5

You don’t need any educational background for this study

Well, that’s maybe not the correct way to phrase it. Of course you need at least something to be eligible to study a Master’s degree at UCAM. It’s an acknowledged Bachelor’s degree. But other than that, there are no real educational backgrounds needed. So let me please rephrase the headline to a more adequate one:

No previous degree in Innovation, Marketing or Tourism required

This Master’s is not a consecutive study. You can actually study any random course in your Bachelor’s and will be passing the admission. The criteria for the admissions are quite low, don’t worry about any hurdles or obstacles. But what about the essential core content of the study? Innovation, Marketing or Tourism?

I was first very skeptical. Innovation was only a very small part during my Bachelor’s study of ‘International Marketing’. But Tourism wasn’t at all part of my Bachelor’s. So the only professional knowledge in tourism I had before this study was being a tourist myself. Would it be enough to pass the study “Innovation and Tourism Marketing” ? Or would it be even enough to be accepted for the study?

At the end there wasn’t anything to worry about. The study didn’t require any professional knowledge in tourism:

Difficulty level: Beginner (almost God mode)

My Bachelor’s in International Marketing has had quite a few difficult elements, especially the maths-related subjects and especially market research and statistics. That was a really hard level and at the same time a hard filter to separate the wheat from the chaff.

But compared to my Bachelor’s, it was really simple and almost a ‘free ride’ on a roller coaster in a theme park. Of course with its ups and downs. But at no time, there was a moment when I had to fear for not passing a subject. Far from it!

Take a look at the screenshot again from the eMail conversation with the study coordinator. There was one statement I want to point on:

“From the academic point of view, the only thing we need from you it is a passion for tourism, a good attitude and your attendance to all the lessons and activities that will be organized within the year. No previous work, neither experience or expertise is need it, so you can relax and enjoy your holidays.”

Study coordinator of Innovation, Tourism and Marketing at UCAM about the difficulty of the study

Well, the study itself did not have a very high difficulty level. But calling it from an official staff member a ‘holiday’ is a little bit too jejune. We are talking at least about a whole study course, where thousands of EUR are invested. That would be a quite expensive holiday. And by the way: I bought the book he suggested cheap at amazon.com as a used edition (new editions were too expensive) and needed to look inside it exactly zero times during my study. That was a waste of money.

But also in our cohort there were students from a complete different backgrounds without any previous experience in one of these three disciplines. None of them failed the study – All passed successfully and easily the course.

If you want to hear my sloppy opinion: You need to be a complete douchebag and/or a fool to not pass Innovation and Tourism Marketing at UCAM. If you managed to read this blog article, you’ll pass this study blindfolded.
