Caspar – The very beardest of

*After laughter comes tearz…*

First: I’m sorry, but this was a must-do-joke!

Second: Now, that the last of the three housemates is gone with whom I spent the most of my time in Lima, I have enough of it to write nearly an essay about him. Thanks to god I am not completely alone, but if I’d have the chance again, I won’t ever choose to leave anything again as least.

Third: You have a really incredible photogenically exterior. It was for me the most difficult to select the ten best photos of you.

After the worst intro ever written, let’s focus on the protagonist of this short story. Dr. Ca$h aka The Cazz aka Caspar. A man, that could weather the storms of time. A man, that could calm riots down with his charisma. A man, that I was allowed to touch his magnificent beard. Once I told him, that his name in German is a synonym for clown. When I met him on our first common evening, I thought: “Damn, what a hippie, what a drop-out”. It was at the end of February, his beard was at this time already nice and long grown, and he worn a Celtic Glasgow-jersey. He was so goddamn relaxed after almost five (?) weeks of traveling across Peru, that he smiled the whole evening without stopping once. It was the best decision for every roommate (but also for him) to come to our house and live there. Caspar makes a group richer because of his presence. He has a kind of empathetical interacting in a group, that you don’t have another choice than to like him. What really impressed me was his fanatical interest for football. I felt myself recognized: If he saw anything round, he wanted to kick it away and dribble. If we watched nice but short football clips at youtube, we already knew the most of the clips we wanted to show each other. And like me he couldn’t miss any match of his club of the running season and streamed it (pssst: another illegal activity) online to watch every second of it. Sometimes he set his alarm clock to not miss any second of a match of Ajax Amsterdam.

I would describe myself as a sporty and sportive guy. But I wish I had the half of the motivation for sport he has. He always tried to motivate me for Futsal, Jogging, Football, etc. and did a lot of performances within the semester.

Caspar was similar to my Dutch friend Gertjan concerning doing something. Just talk about it, decide about it and do it. Thinking or regretting later. He always did, what he liked without skeptical weighing of pro and con. But he was also very curious about the things that Peru had plenty to offer. Tasting new things, meet new people, discover new areas – Caspar was in his time in Peru for me a real discoverer. Together with him and Gertjan, we built the ‘axis of evil’, that was after a short time very well-known at almost all of the exchange students.

We’ve spend a lot of time together with cooking, complaining about the horrible traffic in Peru whilst we sat in the busses to our home or just talk to each other. I never had any bad result, feeling or consequence, when I spent my time with him. Together we travelled to Huacachina, Huaraz and Cuzco/Machu Picchu. For me, every trip is unforgettable, especially Machu Picchu. Damn, if you see one of the new seven world wonders with somebody, you will never forget any second of this day. And I felt very honored that I was allowed to kick his ass down the stairs of Machu Picchu:

I also liked it to sing the national hymn for glorious nation of Kazakhstan. To be honest, I know that almost nobody knows about our insider jokes, but I will list up some for you. BY EXAMPLE:

*Fuck, that’s delicious*

*Oh shit, the cops*

*Hello my name is Dr. Greenthump…Hello!*

Announcement: I will give you a pannach back!

Hey, but one thing at the end: The pannach you gave me after the FRA-GER match…You will get it definitely back one time! I will never forget the time with you and the rest of the people of Amsterdam. For sure! And for sure there will be a revival. I will start the plan directly tomorrow!

Gabriela – The very best of

old tumblr blog articles from 2014

This text is dedicated to my beloved roommate and housemate Gabriela, aka ‘The Gab’. Wait…Did I write ‘housemate’? This is actually not the correct notation, because she left yesterday our big house in Lima to return to her home in Amsterdam. A best of a very special person(ality) and character.

And since I sat yesterday in the Taxi with Caspar to bring her to the airport, I am incredibly sad about it. She had tears in her eyes, when she said goodbye to Caspar and me and also I got teary-eyed. This was the first time, that I realized, that our incredible time in Lima will have an end. Before we always talked a lot about it, but yesterday I’ve felt the first time the pain of saying goodbye. And I am really not good in saying goodbyes.

But who is the mysterious ‘The Gab’? Who is this girl, that looks like the younger sister of Naomi Campbell? And why did she became such a good friend to me? I will try to explain it.

Gabriela is a very honest and polite person. She excused for all her “Godverdomme”, she expressed in our time in Lima. Very many people were impressed because of different reasons about her performance. She had always an elegant way to solve things, to talk to people and to move. I remember a scene in the discotheque Gotica on the dance floor, when five boys circled her and tried to munch her like their prey. But Gabriela is a very true and faithful person – To herself and also to her boyfriend. She loves him but also her family. When they arrived for one week in Lima, I didn’t see her very much, because she spend so much time with them to show ‘her’ city and the way she lives and what she experienced. She also talked always a lot about her family and what she learned from her parents and sisters. This way of acting impressed me very much like the five wolves in the discotheque.

She was such a happy person and showed always her smile. I really can’t remember one situation, when she was very disappointed or any comparable.

We traveled together to Iquitos (what was for me the best travel I did in Peru) and to Lunahuana. I like to remember all of the moments with her – Talking was so easy, but on the other way also very ambitious. We ‘talked the same language’ and this not just because of our possibilities to talk in English and Dutch. All conversations were sophisticated, but made me also richer. I liked it, when she asked me for help or how to answer a difficult question.

And because she made all of our times more rich with here elegant, but also sympathetic and helpful way we called her ‘The Gab’.

Gab, you showed me, that you are more than just a housemate. You have become a real good friend to me and I am proud to have had the opportunity to spend my time with you so intense and long. This entry in my blog was just for you and I will show you now the ten best photos of ‘The Gab’. I hope to see you soon – I don’t know when, I don’t know where. But I hope to have it soon. And whilst I write these lines and select the best photos of her, I got teary-eyed again. Because we are quite similar in emotional things and I miss you very much ;´-)

Colorful parade in Surco (April 2014)

Colourful parade in Surco

In my district Surco has been a few weeks ago a very colorful parade. It nearly looks like carnival, but it has just been on a Sunday without any reference to carnival.

I couldn’t really find out, what the topic of this parade was. I’ve seen superheroes like Spiderman and Batman, old woman dressed like clowns, cheerleaders and monster trucks all combined in one parade.

I stepped on a bridge to have a better view from upside for photos.

Gamarra (Lima) en 2014

Gamarra

Gamarra is a part of Lima which is ideal for shopping for clothes and walking across the food and spice markets. But there is a big difference between a market in Europe and these markets. For the better orientation of the prices: 1 PEN is 0,25 €.

I really love these markets and felt very comfortable there. Since now, I’ve visited Gamarra two times but I know, that I will be there more often.

First journal entry 2014

English, old tumblr blog articles from 2014, peru, Uncategorized

Hello and welcome to my first journal entry!

Introducing:

For tumblr I decided to summarize all the influences, all the experiences, all the things I’ve seen in a stylistic way for the people that know me and the people that want to become acquainted with me. I prefer informational self-definition, keeping the users privacy data (hopefully) more private and finding an alternative to the odious network Facebook.

Two days ago I arrived in Peru to stay there for about six month to study for one semester in Lima. After this time I will do a little round trip to South America.

All in all I can’t wait to force this time – But unfortunately the last two days I’ve been kicked out due to jet lag. Today it is raining – And therefore the best way to rub up my blog and prepare my first entry here. I hope for a lot of informative, funny and unique contributions for all interested people.

Last but not least I want to thank all the people that enabled or helped me to realize this trip to South America. I also want to thank those people that never lost the faith in me.

Best regards and see you soon!
