Is it worth to visit Paraíso Caño Hondo?
I can answer this question with a definitive…
YES IT IS!
I was there in January and that’s usually the high season in the Dominican Republic. According to that, capacities are running low and prices are higher as during other times.
Because of a national bank holiday, I was visiting the place for one night during a long weekend. But neither will all these signs of a possible overbooking, it was nearly full at the hotels. Neither Paraíso Caño Hondo nor Altos de Caño Hondo were to be fully stretched.
We are talking maybe about 4 other rooms that were booked at Altos de Caño Hondo. Can’t tell how many other guests were at Paraíso Caño Hondo, but not many either if you take a look at the pictures.
It is possible to get a day pass for the waterpark though. That was filling up the empty space with people though. But as soon as the bus left in the afternoon, the place was nearly empty. Difficult to say, if these are normal conditions for Caño Hondo. But for me it was just welcome to have a more exclusive experience without hordes of people.
How many days should I spend at Caño Hondo?
I would recommend to spend two nights – three days at Caño Hondo, no matter if you want to be at Paraíso Caño Hondo or Altos de Caño Hondo. These two nights would be perfect for a weekend, but you don’t need to spend them necessarily at a weekend. I would even suspect more visitors with a day pass at the weekends. So if your itinerary allows it, try weekdays.
That’s just the maximum time I would recommend. The place is very far off, so you ‘lose’ already some hours at the day of arrival and departure. Better to have an additional night to be able to enjoy the place to the fullest.
With all the trips offered by Caño Hondo I described before, you can fill the day with an active and eventful excursion and later relax at the waterpark.
The food at the restaurant is awesome by the way and definitely worth its money. Well, not many other possibilities to eat than at these two hotel restaurants.
I’m pretty sure, that you can have a great time there at Caño Hondo. A double room including breakfast shouldn’t cost more than $75 per room. For me personally, this trip was worth it.
